The Art of Sizing: A Practical Guide to Artwork and Scale

Hey there, domestic dreamers!

Ready to spice up your nest with some original art and not sure what size you need? We'll dive into making your space cozy, personal and getting the size right for your artwork purchases. Sound good?

Size Matters – Seriously:

First things first, size definitely matters. You don't want to let your beautiful artwork get lost on a colossal wall or overpower a cozy corner. Aim for the sweet spot – 50-75% of your wall space. That way, your art stands out and provides that visual impact you're looking for.

For example: Let's consider standard artwork sizes based on the 50-75% scale rule for a sofa and a queen-size bed. Keep in mind that individual preferences may vary, but these suggestions can serve as a starting point:

  1. Over the Sofa:

    • For a standard 3-seater sofa (around 84 inches wide), consider artwork that ranges from 42 to 63 inches in width.
    • Aim for a height that complements the wall space vertically, considering the visual weight of the furniture beneath.
  2. Above a Queen-Size Bed:

    • For a queen-size bed (60 inches wide), opt for artwork with a width ranging from 30 to 45 inches.
    • Position the artwork so that it hangs above the headboard and is centered within the width of the bed.

Keep in mind, these sizes are based on wall coverage, so if you are hanging multiple pieces you would divide the total coverage in inches accordingly to keep the scale in range. This is unless you're going for the gallery wall, or a maximalist vibe we'll cover below. Make sense?

Remember, these are general guidelines, and personal preferences play a significant role. Feel free to adjust the sizes based on the specific dimensions of your furniture and the visual impact you desire for your space.

Gallery Walls = The Cool Kids' Choice?

Got a big, blank canvas in your living room? Consider going for a gallery wall! Mix and match colorful wall art – big, small, abstract, or traditional – like you're curating your own art show. It's like giving your walls a personality makeover and you can always add new pieces as you collect them, too.

Magazine-Worthy Magic:

Want your space to be Instagram-ready? Embrace the magazine-worthy mantra. Follow the golden rule of proper scale. Magazines feature homes with that perfect balance of large, colorful artwork, cozy corners, and trendy vibes. Make your space look like it just jumped off the glossy pages. Scale (and a little flair) really is everything!

Your Home, Your Rules:

In case you're needing one... here's your permission slip – your home is YOURS. Whether you're into abstract, traditional, or colorful artwork, make it your own. When you step into your living room, it should be like a warm hug from your favorite blanket – comforting, personal, and totally you.

Color Your World:

Now, about that colorful artwork – you're definitely onto something! Large, colorful artwork can be a showstopper in any room. It's not just art; it's an expression of your style and a conversation piece for sure. Imagine your living room transformed into a vibrant wonderland – sounds like a dream, right?

And hey, if you're into exploring more color and considering floral artwork, I might just have the thing for you! Check out my shop for a burst of colorful *mostly* floral artwork that could be the perfect addition to your art collection. 🌈✨
